The third international conference “Energy efficiency in industry, agriculture and housing” was held
The third international conference “Energy efficiency in industry, agriculture and housing”, organized by the Association of Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving was held on October, 4, 2016 in Kyiv, President Hotel.
Over 200 Ukrainian and international experts attended the conference. Among them – representatives of Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Communal Services of Ukraine, Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE), Embassy of Ukraine in the USA, Embassy of France in Ukraine, the Austrian Energy Agency, GIZ project “Energy Efficiency in Municipalities”, UNDP project “Expert hub for energy efficiency”.
The following special guests joined us at the Conference: Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France in Ukraine, Ms. Isabelle Dumont; Mr. Nicolas Perrin, Counselor for Agriculture Embassy of France in Ukraine; Mr. Krzysztof Gierulski, Support Group for Ukraine, European Commission (Brussels); Mr. Kyrylo Shevchenko, Chairman of the Board, Ukrgasbank; Mr. Borys Onischenko, Ph.D., manager of Regional Development, KUHN Ukraine; Ms. Natalia Boyko, manager of energy reform, Project Office of the National Reforms Council; Mr. Sergiy Maslichenko, Senior Manager, Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Department, EBRD Eugene Cherviachenko, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine; Mr. Sergiy Silchenko, partner at ILF; Mr. Kostyantyn Gura, SAEE, as well as international experts and representatives of business or public society.
Thus, the conference brought together participants fully involved in reforming energy and energy efficiency sectors in Ukraine, as well as implementing modern technologies in the area of energy efficiency, resource saving for various sectors of the Ukrainian economy.
“The period of extensive development in economics and business has been completely exhausted” – Oksana Reminska, AEE president finalized the Conference. “It is time for active implementation of energy efficient technologies, which is currently almost the key issue providing a competitiveness of domestic business. High potential of energy savings should be unlocked through the use of new approaches and developments. Only novel comprehensive and technical solutions in combination with effective reforms in energy sector will allow increasing efficiency of energy resource consumption. The latter will improve a competitiveness of economics enabling mechanisms of nation-wide energy savings”.
The conference provided participants and partners an opportunity to present actual results of energy-saving projects. They discussed new ideas, different approaches for the development of energy-saving technologies in Ukraine, considering national strategy for energy saving.
Ukrgasbank representatives introduced their funding program for the projects related to modernization of enterprises and improvement of productive energy efficiency. Lending approach for “green” projects is implemented in cooperation with IFC (International Finance Corporation), which is aimed to make Ukrgasbank the first bank in Ukraine specialized in “eco” credits. Collaboration of Ukrgasbank and IFC allows providing distinctive expert analysis of energy efficient modernization projects, identifying untapped potential of companies’ resource savings and finally accelerating ROI. All eco and energy efficient projects in the bank are considered on the priority basis. Moreover, Ukrgasbank provides preferential interest rates for credits and deposits to the companies which activities involving eco-friendly and energy efficient technologies.
Delivering presentation at the Conference, Borys Onishchenko (manager of regional development at “KUHN Ukraine”) introduced the Strip-Till technology for agricultural companies. This advanced technology of soil processing is operable while growing corn, canola, sugar beet, soybean, sunflower and other crops. As a result of its implementation, energy consumption in grain production will reduce by 40%. In addition, the company is one of the leaders in farming equipment having some efficient solutions for farming.
Ivan Bondarchuk (law firm “ILF”) presented modern approaches to business modeling of Energy Service in accordance with current legislation. According to Mr. Bondarchuk, Ukrainian companies are able to implement the package of measures on energy efficient technologies’ adoption themselves, following the approaches above. The latter will allow paying for electrical energy consumption services at the expense of 80–90% savings.
The Conference once again became one of the most important events in the field of energy efficiency and energy saving.
